I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides the
student with the basis for interpreting radiographs with less commonly
found alterations due to diseases, variations in function or technical
factors by bringing him into contact with a large number of current
radiographs of patients being seen in the College of Dentistry. The
student reviews radiographs with dental or dental hygiene students on
a real time basis.
II. SYNOPSIS OF GOALS
The student will construct
a base of normal and common variants as well as commonly seen pathological
changes, and will be able to use this as a foundation upon which to
build his (her) knowledge of less commonly seen variants of normal,
pathological changes and technical problems.
III. COURSE OUTLINE
Current radiographs of patients
in the College of Dentistry are reviewed with dental and dental hygiene
students after they have made their own reports. Questions arising from
these are dealt with, under arms length supervision of faculty who provide
assistance as required.
IV. METHODOLOGY
The appropriate medical/dental
literature will be reviewed as needed.
V. PRE-REQUISITES AND/OR
CO-REQUISITES
A. Pre-requisites
Arrangement with and approval
of the Course Director.
B. Co-requisites
Enrollment in a graduate
or specialty level radiology program of study in dentistry .
VI. BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES
The student will be able
to
|
|
search the literature
for relevant information pertaining to any specific diagnostic problem
that may arise as a result of a diagnostic imaging investigation
of a patient.
|
|
|
provide educational guidance
in radiology to dental, dental hygiene, and dental assisting students
|
|
|
utilize the didactic and
practical information gained from previous cases or the literature
in reaching an appropriate differential interpretation and recommendations
for action in specific patient related cases.
|
VII. MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION

on an ongoing basis to determine if (s)he is progressing in his (her)
ability to meet the behavioral objectives. In the event that doubt exists,
