I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course provides the
student with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the technical
maintenance of darkroom and clinical equipment, including quality assurance
methods and trouble-shooting, under the supervision of the radiology
staff.
II. SYNOPSIS OF GOALS
The student will be able
to deal with the day-to-day problems that arise in a radiology clinic
due to problems with the technical parts associated with the production
of radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality.
III. COURSE OUTLINE
The student will assist in
the ongoing quality assurance program, under supervision of the Quality
Assurance Supervisor, and participate in the annual equipment survey
of the University of Iowa Health Protection Office. The student will
be required to interpret the results and suggest corrective actions
when indicated.
IV. METHODOLOGY
The appropriate medical/dental
literature will be reviewed as needed.
V. PRE-REQUISITES AND/OR
CO-REQUISITES
A. Pre-requisites
Arrangement with and approval
of the Course Director.
B. Co-requisites
Enrollment in a graduate
or specialty level radiology program of study in dentistry .
VI. BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES
The student will be able
to

of equipment on a scheduled basis.

detect problems with equipment
and techniques.

suggest the appropriate
courses of action to correct the problems.

VII. MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION
The student will be evaluated
on an ongoing basis to determine if (s)he is progressing in his (her)
ability to meet the behavioral objectives. In the event that doubt exists,
passing a formal oral and/or written examination will be required.
